You can say a great many things without any words. I was initially unhappy with my first draft of lyrics...I thought they should be more poetic. Then I remembered I was writing a song about a guy who can't express himself with words and left it unchanged.

The vision of loveliness sitting beside me
I wanted to touch you to see if you were real
I wanted to tell you all the things I hoped you'd feel
But my knees shook; my mouth was dry
I felt so nervous I wanted to die
How can I speak to you when you look at me that way?
So I kissed you and had nothing more to say

That evening in Charlotte when I held you tight
Nothing in my life before had ever felt so right
I wanted to tell you that I hoped that you loved me
I wanted to sing to you of how happy we would be
But tears of joy caught in my throat
I couldn't sing a single note
But I loved you, and I was telling you that day
So I kissed you and had nothing more to say

The language of the kiss can say so many things
And I hope you never miss all the joy it brings
The many times in my life I can't say what's on my mind
A kiss will give me words that a mortal couldn't find

That night in December, we'd had our final fight
And done too many wrongs to ever put them right
I'll never forget you, but I wanted to forgive
And wish you luck upon the life you chose to live
But my voice broke, and then went weak
My throat closed, I couldn't speak
So you took me in your arms before we parted ways
And you kissed me and had nothing more to say
