I Took The Bait

from Soon by Dale Wicks

/

about

This one made the cut only because I already had a good arrangement of it that I didn't want to see go to waste. That swing beat came about by accident...when I did the failed "Monsoon" album I wasn't great at djembe and it just sort of happened that way.

lyrics

A moment's atonement shouldn't be the death of you and I
But your speaking and seeing are focused on the things that make us die

I took the bait when you hung on to fights that meant our grave
My anger's growing fearsome now
I took the bait

Your questions and sessions grow into a startling array
You hold me too tightly and only make me want to run away

I took the bait when you hung on to fights that meant our grave
My anger's growing fearsome now
I took the bait

And everything that doesn't kill us doesn't make us strong
And everything you throw at me doesn't matter if you're wrong

Forgiving and forgetting are foolish things to build a love around
Reason and responsibility are better friends to have when you are down

I took the bait when you hung on to fights that meant our grave
My anger's growing fearsome now
I took the bait

I took the bait when you carved out a life from my mistakes
And forced me into apathy
I took the bait
