The Spring in Ireland

from Soon by Dale Wicks

/

about

Another "Monsoon" track...I feel like this is one of the ones I do that people remember, though I never thought particularly highly of it. It does only have one chord, after all. It was another one I thought could be done simply, yet it ended up with 6-voice counterpoint.

lyrics

My lovely lass, she came to me when winter's grass was growing green
And ice had gone away, my lovely lass, she came
"A pretty day on Innisfree," my lovely lass, she said to me
"Oh won't you take a stroll with me?" my lovely lass, she said

Oh, we enjoyed the spring in Ireland
Oh, we enjoyed it all day

And so, my love, she walked with me; we walked until we reached the sea
My heart was chiming jubilee together as we walked
And set us down beside a tree, through fields of rye and barley
We played our music beautifully, though brought no lute or fife

Oh, we enjoyed the spring in Ireland
Oh, we enjoyed it all day

And so we lay beneath the tree while bathing in our harmony
Beauty all that I could see both far and where we lay
My lover held my hand and we both felt her heart and heard it beat
The same sound that I felt in me beneath my lover's hand

Oh, we enjoyed the spring in Ireland
Oh, we enjoyed it all day
