Monsoon

from Soon by Dale Wicks

/

about

This one has been floating around forever...I loved this arrangement of the song and tried to use as much of it as possible from the previous attempt, though only the shaker, piano, and mandolin were ultimately salvageable. This is one of my favorite songs I've written, and I love how its meaning changes for me over the years.

lyrics

Troubled times are here to stay
Forecast says more on the way
I'm awfully tired of running from myself
But you, like a beacon in the night
Beckoning me with your light,
Say to trust your troubled soul to someone else

When it rains, it pours
Can I hide out in your lagoon
To ride out this storm in the middle of my own monsoon?

You dry my eyes with kisses and you set my mind at ease
It's hard to hear the rain falling at times like these
Without you in my corner, it would blow me all away
So promise that you'll stay beside me every single day

When the sky gets dark, I don't worry
'Cause I'm safe here in your room
You protect me from the furies of my own monsoon

When I think of you, my heart swells up
Just like a big balloon
You keep my boat afloat in the middle of my own monsoon

So stay with me, 'neath this canopy
In my own monsoon
