Aurora

about

It's not REALLY jazz...but this was my attempt. Kinda went in another direction on me. It didn't feel right going back to the original key after the modulation in the break, so the 3rd chorus is a fifth higher. I especially liked how that turned out.

It's another sister-song to California and Backwords...I wrote this one first. "California" was my answer to myself, saying "you big liar; you never went anywhere!"

lyrics

Aurora, Aurora
I've just got to tell you
I can't take it anymore
I'm going to California

We've had more bad times than good times
Now it's time for goodbyes
We can't fake it anymore
I'll drop this tired disguise

& fly away from you
I've got nothing to say to you
You can say anything you need to believe
just as long as you don't say it to me

Aurora, Aurora
I bought these flowers for you
You just had to know how I have adored you
It takes time to make things happen,
but it's not the time that matters
Perhaps I wasn't honest
I hope that makes it easier

For you to forget me
& stop wasting time on me
You can say that I'm a child who only thinks of himself
Just say it to somebody else

Was it all in my head?
Or was it wrong how I left it?
I'll never get over how you cared for me
You're a talented girl & I wish you the world
I was only ever handsome in your poetry

But I ran away from this
I'm sorry about the mess
Insult me if you will, & I think that you might
I'm just praying that you're not right
